GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 10th December, 1919.

Referring to previous correspondence on

the subject of applications under the Wireless Telegraphy

Ordinance for permission to erect and use private wireless telegraph installations, I have the honour to inform Your

Lordship that I have received an application from Mr. R.

Melville Smith to erect and use at his residence on the Peak a

small Wireless Telegraphy Receiving Set and a small Wireless Telegraphy Transmitting Station for power not exceeding 150

watts for experimental purposes only.

2.

I am informed by the Commander-in-Chief of

the China Station, whom I consulted on this matter, that there

is no purely Naval objection to such m installation in peace time but that the erection of isolated small power stations is strongly to be deprecated. It is probable that stations such as Cavite in the Philippines may be opened shortly for commerc- -ial purposes and it is therefore doubtful whether the possible reception of market quotations by a single individual is

desirable.

3.

I have the honour to enquire therefore what policy His Majesty's Government wishes to be carried out
